PORAVER® SUPPORTS LEED® V4
SUSTAINABLE BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
Building rating systems identify the quality of buildings with regard to ecological and sustainable aspects. Throughout the world, a number of different systems has been established under the umbrella of the WGBC (World Green Building Council). The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building rating system was developed in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in the USA. It is an international standard for the classification of high-quality and sustainable “green buildings,” applicable to various types of buildings, such as new construction and renovation projects.

THE LEED® SYSTEM
By meeting or exceeding the requirements in the different categories, building projects receive one or more points for LEED® certification. The project is then rated according to four quality levels: Certified (green), silver, gold and platinum. The more points awarded, the higher the building performance. The LEED® certification only applies to construction projects. Poraver® supports sustainable construction and is a member of several Green Building Councils.
Under the Material & Resource (MR) Category, specifically the Credit “Building Product Disclosure and Optimization - Sourcing of Raw Materials”, Poraver® contributes to Option #2 “leadership extraction practices” (worth 1 point). To obtain this point LEED V4 states, “Use products that meet at least one of the responsible extraction criteria below for at least 25%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed building products in the project”. Poraver® counts as 100% recycled content and meets the recycled content criteria which is one of the possible choices that satisfies the “responsible extraction criteria” requirement. LEED V4 states, “Recycled content is the sum of postconsumer recycled content plus one-half the preconsumer recycled content, based on cost. Products meeting recycled content criteria are valued at 100% of their cost for the purposes of credit achievement calculation.” The following example was provided to Poraver® by a USGBC representative; “Any amount of recycled material can be included; there is no minimum for a product to be considered. For example, if a $10,000 product has 1% recycled content, it contributes $100 to the aggregate but if it is 50% recycled, then it contributes $5,000 to the calculation.”
